About the Role

This is a highly generalist position, as the role is sole charge and covers a diverse range of areas and issues with domestic and international relevance relating to two NZX listed entities.  The role reports directly to the Managing Director, however day to day interaction includes working with the Vice Presidents of Operations and Finance and the Directors of HR, Sales, I.T and Property Management.

Key responsibilities include the provision of general first instance legal advice and company secretarial services.  The successful candidate will:

  • Provide compliance & contractual law advice
  • Review contracts, agreements and internal policies to ensure compliance with all statutory or legal requirements
  • Review and draft transactional documentation (e.g. leases / licences, management agreements)
  • Manage due diligence, external lawyers / trademark attorneys and the group's insurance brokers

To apply you will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Admitted to practice as a lawyer in New Zealand, with 3+ years PAE
  • Post graduate and company secretarial experience in a commercial / in-house environment;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders, international counterparts and global office representatives
  • Experience in providing  advice to all levels of the business up to and including the Board of Directors on relevant matters;
  • Flexible team player with tenacity, initiative, solid attention to detail and decision making abilities;
  • Ability to effectively prioritise;
  • High level computer skills, intermediate Microsoft Word and Outlook.

In addition to the above, previous litigation experience is preferred.

To be eligible for this position, the applicant must currently be legally entitled to work in New Zealand and hold a current New Zealand practicing certificate.
